It appears my shark is dying/dead - I was never that impressed.

I’m looking to spend <£200

Is the Miele C1 ok? I probably vacuum 2xweekly. Small 3 bed limited storage mainly carpeted. open to other suggestions also.

I was going to post this very question! Our shark is making a horrendous noise, it's the second one that's gone wrong in not that many years so I'll be buying a different brand next time.

Cmq · 21/12/2024 22:54

Yes mine is a horrible noise with poor suction that randomly stops altogether . Taken all the bits apart but the noise appears to be from the motor bit.

I have an ancient miele corded and rate it better than my shark one which is ok for crumbs but not good when I want proper suction

SabrinaThwaite · 21/12/2024 23:29

I can never recommend the Miele vacuums enough. Great on both carpets and hard floors. It will make you realise how rubbish the Shark was.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/12/2024 23:55

I'm going to go against the grain here ...

Originally I had a Shark but it was a bit rubbish and no matter what I did it left a sprinkling of ggrit when ut was switched off , I tried keeping it running a while or switching off over a bin , but nope .

Bought a Halo Capsual cordless , it has bags and worked well but it gets clogged up with hair on the roller and recently just doesn;t feel like it's got any oomph even on boost .

I bought a corded Shark Stratos HairWrap in October it is amazing . There's a cannister for hair and dust I am equally impressed and appalled how it fills up.
It folds in half for storage , it can fold under a bed or table . Has a crevice tool and a smaller head for stairs .
Cord but its long ( 10m)

I keep the Halo for quick tidy ups of cat litter

We have a Dyson v11. Big house and three years later it’s still perfect

TwinklyStarlight · 22/12/2024 13:24

Our Miele C1 has a lot of suck, has lasted years and been reliable.

I find it poor at picking up cat hair, I prefer something that has rollers to agitate the carpet. But nearly all cylinder vacs will have this issue - I think I'm just an upright vacuum person.

Floralnomad · 22/12/2024 13:27

We have sharks on both floors and I have just bought the Shark cordless that is self emptying into a canister on QVC this morning to replace our elderly downstairs one . It was a bargain £240 including p+p .

Nitgel · 22/12/2024 13:46

Yes agree with miele it's on offer at jl mine is fantastic.

Keepsmiling2948 · 22/12/2024 13:50

If you can stretch the budget a little more Curry’s are selling Miele C3 for £249 down from £349. It’s fantastic! Especially if you have pets.

I bought one last week (to replace my other C3 which has survived everything I’ve thrown at it for 12 years but was starting to slow down)

If not though the C1s are still great, I recommend any Miele. Best by far.

UndeniablyGenX · 22/12/2024 13:53

Placemaking because I need a new one too.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 22/12/2024 13:57

I have a meile C3 and much prefer it to my old Shark

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/12/2024 14:37

I know Miele are held in high regard but I got an utter lemon of a washing machine and I have to say their CS was not what I would call good or helpful .
Maybe they aren't used to people saying "My Miele is broken" ?
So I am put off the brand but never say never . I was put off Shark too till my new one .......

If anyone is interested QVC has a Shark cordless TSV

Hobbes8 · 22/12/2024 14:39

My Miele has just died and I bought a shark on Black Friday but it seems to be a heap of shit. The rollers inside the head whizz around like nuts but there’s barely any suction and it dumps back out the dust in clumps. I’m going back to Henry.

Always recommend this on a hoover thread. Screwfix do a builders hoover called titan. It's not sexy or fancy looking but it hoovers up my the shedding of my akita year after year when all previous, including Dyson and the like failed before one season was over. There's nothing it can't handle and it's £50/60.

Cmq · 22/12/2024 17:05

thank for all the responses

the shark with the folding hose looks amazing for the storage aspect. I just really wasn’t impressed and the dust canister looks quite small for the amount of carpet.

I used to have to use a Henry to clean at a previous job and he was a bit annoying to pull around and tended to fall over.

I do have a cat so it might be that the c3 or perhaps c2 cat and dog is the winner here.

Sorry for jumping on the thread with a question. Can you use the Titan on carpets??

There is nowhere you can’t use it! I’ve lost almost all my extendable ends by now but there will be an end for carpets.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 23/01/2025 15:20

I have wood everywhere at the minute sorry.
