Carpet protector mat

I'm trying to protect the carpet leading from the kitchen. I had an off cut of carpet just outside the kitchen door but it's gone all curly and is a trip hazard.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Vinyl carpet protector you can buy rolls of it it isn't particularly expensive.
