I'm looking at replacing my oven as it's ancient and keeps going wrong. it's an eye level double oven.
Are self-cleaning ovens worth the extra money and does anyone have any recommendations please.

yes, 100%. No more scrubbing, just turn it on and wipe a little bit of dust (ash) later. Oven like new. Amazing.

We had a Neff f slide and hide one and it really does clean the oven with minimal effort BUT we found the smell intolerable. They are expensive I would try and work out the cost of electricity when it’s on clean mode ( I believe it does use a lot of power as it heats to about 400 degrees) against the cost of getting a normal one and getting an oven cleaner to come and do it once a year. They do everything grills as well. With pyrolytic you have to take all the shelf bits out otherwise they discolour so you are still scrubbing bits.

Depends on the model, there are also 'self-clean' or Pyro-fit racks nowadays that will not get damaged.
