Can someone help me understand how to iron/get the greases out of velvet and silk fabrics?

I have some velvet trousers, and a silk skirt, and I have no idea how to safely iron them or get the creases out!

I know velvet just melts if you iron it. Not sure about silk. Does anyone know? Thanks!

Silk irons best if slightly damp rather than totally dry, but a steam iron on a medium heat should be okay.

Velvet is more about the weave - I have cotton velvet and silk velvet, but you can also get velvet made from artificial fibres. You need to iron it at the temperature for that fabric, which is usually hot for cotton, medium for silk, low for artificial fibres. Velvet needs to be ironed on the reverse, i.e., the side that looks like normal fabric rather than the "furry" side.

You could put a pillow case over it and iron over that.
