What does everyone do when plates break and you can't get the same ones to replace?

We seem to have only 4 side plates left, maybe 7 bowls left but loads of big plates.

The set has been discontinued. Seems a bit wasteful to replace them all.

What do others do? Just accept mismatched crockery?

ebay is your friend

Twoshoesnewshoes · 03/11/2024 20:51

Yes, eBay, or I go for a complementary style - we have some duck egg blue stoneware now mixed in with duck egg blue patterned ones.

Absolutely ebay. My crockery was discontinued 20 years ago but I bought 4 new side plates just the other month.

Another vote for eBay, I’m always getting replacements for my 1970s Wedgwood set!

I always have white crockery for this very reason

moggerhanger · 03/11/2024 20:54

I like mismatched TBH. But mine is mostly riffs on a theme of blue and white (eg willow pattern, Royal Danish) so it all sort of blends in. Whether you can get away with that approach will depend a lot on what you started with, I think.

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/11/2024 20:55

I just buy plain white crockery.

StormingNorman · 03/11/2024 20:55

EBay or a Google search on the pattern name. There are some websites which specialise in old china patterns.

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/11/2024 20:56

I get ones that look very similar, I wouldn't dream of throwing good stuff out just to have a matching set.

But all our plates are white and you can similar sets anywhere.

Cowboycorgi · 03/11/2024 21:06

I don't think I've ever had a full set if matching crockery. Just an eclectic mix of various shapes, sizes & colours.

Mischance · 03/11/2024 21:06

All my crockery is mismatched. No problem.
