Carpet cleaner recommendations

Having just hired a Rug Doctor which was more or less useless, I am looking for a carpet cleaner that will clean upholstery as well as carpets and stairs. I have a Vax which I used once and it soaked my carpet and pulled huge tufts out of it so have never used it again.

Best advice I can give is to watch some of these videos by this chap. He reviews vacuum cleaners and carpet cleaners. He has hundreds of videos and repeats the same tests so it really is like for like comparison. Personally I have the domestic Rug Doctor, I have previously had Vax and Bissell over the last 25 years. The Rug Doctor is brilliant, the review chap also measures how much water it removes from the carpet too. I have never used a commercial cleaner.

@HeyDougie Same chap does reviews of vacuum cleaners, see his channel. I have a Miele Cat and Dog, I don't have pets but I do have long hair and I seem to leave it everywhere. The Miele was recommended on MN years ago. I love it.
