Landlord issues- trapped between a rock and a hard ppace.

I always heard about how private landlords aee the worst, but havent lived in housing associations, i have to the conclusion they all arr pigs.

Anyways after experiencing over 4 decades of awful landlords ( housimg assocoation). Having been forced to give up my tenancy ( due to severe racial hatred) , havinf lived in hostels, street hoping, i found a room.. The only thinf it was with all men. - which in someways i was happy with that rather than sharing with catty women..

Anyways my landlord initally was ok, but sooner after she turned into the most rudest arrogant piece of work. My rent was raised 3 times whej i initally signed. She claimed it was a typo- yea right!. Anyways i kept my head down for the sake of havinf a roof over my head. God knows i was not happy with someone like that. She tried everyway ti get my money. I am on a very low income and i think this propebably pissed jer off as she was hoping that my income would increase so she can take further liberties.

Anyways, being the only female in a property of 5 guys, theyre hygene is not te best, from leaving the toilets seats or leaving the dishes in a stae. The landlord recently sent a very nasty email basicalky threathenijf to take money as she cinsidered the ppace isnt kept clean. A cleaner use ti come once a week , but hadnt been seen for over a month.

Their are two toilets . The downstairs one is the one i always use as it is close to my bedroom. The one upstairs is used by 5 men . But wheh their toilets are to filty or their male friends come round they use the tolet downstairs and most timws leave it in a pogstine. I had to use my own money to buy cleaning products . Anyways the landlord threathen to charge up to £170 and said she woll have yhe cleaner inspect once a week. Frankly i think the clwaner has left and it is one of the guys who is doing the snitchinf. Euther way i am thinking of sendinf an email back explaininf that i leave the baghroom as i see if snd how i should not be the one using my own money on clwaning products . I am a clean person and i feel that because i am the only girl, the boys expect me to do the work and she would be penalising me for it .

The place is managed by the councol who have gone to lengths to not provide me with housing and i think their is a possibolity she is ttying to add to that ( i maybe reachinf) by ensuring their is a conflict , which would prolong the ideal of ne ever obtaining a home. She kmows how much i want my own place and ever since that she has tried to triggee me with her rudeness..

I would like you'll opinion on this. Ishould i respond to the email and put my side acfoss or will i just be playing into her hsnds? . I was so close to flipping yesterday

I think you all have a responsibility to leave these spaces clean. Sounds as though it may be so foul the cleaner doesn't want to come anymore? Can you try and come to some agreement with these guys to rota out who cleans what and when?

The landlord can’t just charge you money like that. Only if the lack of cleanliness is damaging her property can she initiate legal action to ask the court to then fine all tenants.

It sounds to me like your lease may be illegal and with a slumlord from how you say she is taking advantage of you.

I would take a copy of your lease, and the email and contact Shelter for advice. Or call them and then email them copies.

As well as talking to Shelter to learn your rights and standing, I’d be looking for a new place to live. I agree the men are trying to get you to be a housemaid because you are a woman.

If there has been any sexual harassment or intimidation from these men, contact Women’s Aid because then you would qualify for a domestic abuse refuge and that is a quick way out with a roof over your head and even if your lease is 100% legal- your landlady can’t refuse to release you from it and still has to return your deposit.

Thank you spirit , this is very useful information. She had been taken advantage since my tenancy. She was aware my vulnerable position ( given my past HORRIBLE housing association landlord,(and being on UC )and as her property is also run by a local council ( who is close to the horribkr asaociation) this was her opportunitu to take advantage.

From the begonning of my tenancy i made it clear that my goal is to obtain a flat. I built up my 6 months local connection to have the council guve me a very low banding, which means it will be years before i have my own place - if ever, as it has been publicised on the news the council is institionalialy racist .

I am not in the financial position to rent a private flat or do i have a guarantour.

Would you advise i address these points she has made or simply risk beung court up in her web?

The tone throughout all her emails as naaty, she titally lack peoples skills and appears to be a bully.

Shelter has not been any help prior to obtaining the room , so they are out of ghe question when it comes to advicr

The boys are all mummy boy types. Although i had mentioned it to them before , it us quickly ingored and i do not want to go down the root of complaining so it gives her an excuse to target me. She is a nasty rude woman 😡
