Mouse/rat in floorboards

I've been hearing what I assume is a mouse or rat in the floorboards between the living room ceiling and under bedroom floor.

Has anyone got any tips on how to remove them without ripping up the ceiling/floor/carpets? I'm wary about poison because I wouldn't be able to get them out if they die and smell.

This is a rural property and they have likely come off the fields after harvesting.

You have my sympathy we get them every autumn and winter - bloody awful. We have traps and cameras and blocked holes but they still get in and move around

They don't seem to stay very long so you could just ignore it. If you've got an airing cupboard you could try putting traps down in there (they can squeeze through the gaps round the pipes) and in the loft in case they're getting in other parts of the house.

It was this time last year we had a rat problem. Pest control sorted it, it did smell but not for too long. I'd rather that than have a rat running around causing damage

The other night we heard chewing underneath the front room flooring so have bought some poison to use before it gains entry to the house again.

If anyone is putting out bird food ask them nicely to stop. Rats love bird food.

I've got a few humane traps arrive today and see if we catch anything to know what we are dealing with. Looked at pest control but out of my budget for the end of this month, might be able to after pay day.

We caught one. Released in woodland a few miles away on way to work.

Hopefully it's just the one and sorted. What was it a rat or mouse?

Tumbleweed101 · 18/10/2024 10:09

It was a mouse. We have left the other trap in place to see if there are any others getting into the same area. It was cute but rather not have them in the house!

Here is one of the culprits!
