Why does laundry smell bad after wash

Help! I used Ariel gel ever since I got my new washing machine a year ago, no problem. Then I thought I try and save money and switched to Ariel normal laundry liquid for colour and a t shirt and bras started to smell bad after washing.

Now I switched back to Ariel gel but those items still smell awful. The bad smell lingers until all is dry and then the items still don't smell exactly fresh.

What do I do?

The Ariel gel smells different (better) to when I last used it, but did they change the formula as well!? What do I do? What do I use instead?

90 degrees empty wash.

Dettol laundry detergent additive stuff. Kills bacteria. Add to all washes.

If your cycle has any kind of pre-wash, you're washing most of the detergent away before the main wash has started. This could be why you're getting the smell?

@Fleximama but why do the other items then still smell of laundry detergent?

I used to use Ariel gel, used it for years and loved it. Then they changed the scent without warning, and it is revolting! We couldnt wear our clothes or sleep on the sheets because of the smell. I nearly bought a new washing machine at one point. I then went on the Ariel website and read all the reviews, all having the same experience. It was the gel. Everything smelled so bad!
I now use persil colour liquid or persil powder, depending on the wash.

Maybe a bad batch of Ariel?

TBH, I think ariel smells musty anyway.
