Candlewick bedspreads?

Flannelette sheets (the pink/blue striped ones)? The type that caused static electricity with your nylon nightie (no? just me?) Grin

Just in the process of clearing my loft and found a box of these - given to me when I first moved into my house and got everyone's cast offs to 'make do' until I could afford my own stuff.

I suppose the modern equivalent is brushed cotton and fleece throws but oh, the nostalgia!

There was a Brentford Nylon in a local town and I remember mum going there to buy stretch covers for our 3 piece suite sort of sludgy brown khaki moquet covers

In the 70's I remember Biba did a ladies coat in pink candlewick. Nipped in waist and a big collar, I so wanted one of those coats, but couldn't afford one😞

My mum bought those nylon sofa cover and the cats plucked them to pieces.

We tried to put some nylon shiny curtains on the bonfire and they wouldn't burn. What could they have been made of?

charlieinthehaystack · 19/10/2024 10:25

if they would not burn they were probably the fibreglass ones i said about earlier they came from good old Woolies

We had candlewick bedspreads and the gorgeous flannelette sheets and pillowcases. They were so warm to get into especially with a hot water bottle on cold winter nights.

My mum also had a lemon coloured candlewick dressing gown that I managed to take over, I wore it for years. Probably the best dressing gown I've ever had.
