Witches, vampires & zombies - whoever/whatever you are, all are welcome on this spooky flylady thread.

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

October's monthly focus is paper clutter.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

There are no missions on Saturdays.

I have empty laundry baskets. this does not mean i do not have laundry, just that i have baskets <babysteps> Wink Grin

DillyDeclutter · 26/10/2024 22:33

Yay sleeping I love my laundry baskets. It took me a while to find my method with them. May be a little extreme but I have six laundry baskets - one in each bedroom, one in the utility for washing generated downstairs, one for carrying stuff around in, and a wide one for folding clean stuff into.

I changed all the sheets today and consequently have a lot of washing in the baskets!

I also finally got round to last weeks mission of washing the kitchen bin. Outside was fine but inside- yuck . . . Anyway, clean now.

I have a new chest of drawers coming on Monday so tomorrow I need to clear the current one completely ( I did get a bit donr when this was the mission) and the path from the front door to the room it's in. And probably hoover where it has been. Our house is long and thin and the stairs are at one end, the poor delivery men will need to carry it the full length twice. I hope they have clean boots!

Half term holidays here. Roll on week of chaos!

HauntingHazel · 27/10/2024 19:31

Dragons woohoo for empty baskets (even if you do still have laundry to do!)

Dilly you have a system that works, I wouldn't worry about being overboard on number of baskets!
A new chest of drawers sounds exciting!

We had our Halloween party last night, so I've been busy clearing stuff away today. I still have more to do though.

Ta das so far:
🦇 rotated DW
🦇 handwashed dishes
🦇 wiped countertops
🦇 wiped cupboard fronts
🦇 wiped outside of fridge & DW
🦇 put away almost everything that was still out last night (extra drink bottles etc)
🦇 LOLs x2
🦇 airing out the whole house currently

To dos:
🤡 put away extra chairs
🤡 put clean clothes away
🤡 more LOLs
🤡 vacuum
🤡 mop
🤡 bleach both bathrooms
🤡 redo my nails
🤡 cook some eggs up for the next few days

Sorry I didn't drop links last night, it ended up being a late night.

Sunday is renew your spirit day.
No missions on Sunday.

Baby Step 27: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-27/
A bit late for you, sorry! But think about what's for dinner, before it's dinner time! Add that to your afternoon routine (and start on that tomorrow, since I'm so late today 🤦‍♀️)

Well I got the house all cleaned, but did not do my nails, nor did I cook eggs. I did get my clothes out for tomorrow as well as my lunch though.
I also cleaned the glass doors, inside and outside as well as the mirrors in the house.

It was a productive day, but I did get to sit on the couch and watch my show for a couple of hours as well though!

Monday is home bleugh (blessings) day.

We are moving into zone 5 this week, through the end of the month. We are in the living room.

Monday's mission is to spend only 15 minutes in the living room, finding what doesn't belong in there and putting things where they do actually belong.

Baby Step 28: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-28/
Take care of yourself! Include eating healthy, nutritious food, drink your water, take a break and get your rest into your routines.

Does lift floor tile glue count as washing the floor?
I need to wash the turps smell away so that it is possible to sleep later.
Got the chest freezer cleaned over the weekend, the fridge was deep cleaned. the dyer was cleaned. And half the washing machine was done over the weekend.

I have a huge amount of stuff to do but i am currently eating breakfast (at tea time) because it has been a day and there is far more to be done than i am interesting in paying attention to so it is going to be a put the radio on and forget time is a thing shortly

HauntingHazel · 29/10/2024 05:09

Dragons that floor sounds like a big, back breaking job!

I'm enjoying having DS home straight after school again! He gets 1 lol washed & dried for me, as well as rotating the DW.
I pretty much did the home bleugh Sunday, but a little deeper clean so the house is still decent.

OP posts:
HauntingHazel · 29/10/2024 05:19

Tuesday is plan & play day.

Tuesday's mission is to go sofa and chair diving. Remove the cushions (if you can) and dig out anything you may find - coins, socks, crackers etc. When I could remove cushions I would vacuum under there too, to get rid of the crumbs that end up there.

Baby Step 29: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-29/
Click on the link for this week's pamper mission. Take time out for you. Link: https://www.flylady.net/d/br/author/pamper/ treat your mind and soul to some pampering.

Also don't beat yourself up for not doing everything automatically. It took flylady herself 9 months for her own system to become automatic!

Ta das:
🎃 meal planning for the week
🎃 grocery shopping
🎃 LOLs x2 (including sheets)
🎃 redid my nails

I didn't actually do much, it was a pretty relaxing day. I did want to do a workout, but never actually did it 😕 I'll try to get some yoga stretches in before bed. I got the house pretty well cleaned on Sunday so had no motivation to do anything!

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day.

Wednesday's mission is to spend 15 minutes putting out your fires (clear your hotspots - the places where things gather) in your living room.

Baby Step 30: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-30/
Check your calendar for next month. See who has birthdays coming up and plan for them. Add buying cards and/or presents to your list for errand day so you have them on hand already.

If not, is someone else available?

OP posts:
EerilyDecorated · 30/10/2024 05:44

Hi, yes. I'll get it set up tomorrow unless anyone else fancies a go.

HauntingHazel · 30/10/2024 12:15

That sounds perfect! Thank you ED!

Hello all Smile
Despite not posting much recently (bit unwell for a while, then away for a few days) I've been following the thread and, as always, finding it very helpful.
Struck lucky this week as we've had a new sofa and chair in the sitting room, so I can feel I've been down all the cushions etc without actually having done it.
This afternoon is house bleugh of the upstairs - I lazily split it into two days and DH is planning on bread making this afternoon, so it won't be practical to wash the kitchen floor etc
Happy Halloween'een (not sure what else to call the day before Halloween) 🎃

PumpkinsAtMidnight · 30/10/2024 13:44

Busy morning here! Up early with loads of energy. Sized the opportunity to get things done. Looking forward to dipping into the November thread.

Deep cleaned shower door runners
Cleaned shower glass
Cleared coffee table
Reorganised lounge magazines etc
Deep cleaned kitchen sink
Put away drying up
2x LOL
Changed EcoEgg pellets
Ran drum clean on washing machine
Baked bread
Emptied kitchen bins
Cleared chest of drawers
Cleared bedside tables
Wiped down all bedroom surfaces
Household admin
Put car seat cover on
Vacuumed and cleaned car interior
Vacuumed lounge

DillyDeclutter · 30/10/2024 16:50

Wow Pumpkins you have been busy!

I have kept up with the daily tasks but I laughed at today's. I spend at least half an hour every evening sorting out the living room.

Hoovered under the cushions yesterday, satisfyingly crunchy.

HauntingHazel · 31/10/2024 05:28

Thursday is errand day.

Thursday's mission is to set your timer for 15 minutes. Rid what needs to be rid of in the living room. Put things away where they belong.

Baby Step 31: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-31/
Eventually, as the clutter reduces, you can focus on detailed cleaning. For now, keep working on building this routines

May I sneak back into the thread for November please 🙈

I hope you are all well ❤️

I've been sticking to some of the routines but I've been quite poorly so work and keeping people alive and fed has been my main priority! I really want to do a good month so my home is ready for the festive period - you may have noticed my change of username because we are nearly in the season for baileys ! Baileys coffee , baileys hot chocolate....... I also have a baileys cookbook !

LaMarschallin · 31/10/2024 08:48

PumpkinsAtMidnight
Gosh, an impressive (and inspirational) list.
Searchingforbaileys
Sorry to hear you've not been well.
This is a long shot, but have you tried a couple of glasses of Baileys as a restorative? Wink
Downstairs home bleugh today, so should take care of putting things away in the sitting room.
I'll be properly back on track then - long may it last.
Thanks for the threads, Hazel, and thanks for running this month's, ED.
They really are extremely helpful and keep me at least ticking over even when I'm not up to doing much else - Flowers to both of you.

Teens and screens :-(( It’s an uphill battle here.

Been putting dustsheets through the washing-machine each day this week. Too much stuff got dumped in various parts of the garage and the shed, and it’s nice to get it in one place, ready for whenever it’s needed.

Started getting up earlier and listening to housekeeping and decluttering audiobooks before Teens get up. I was surprised how much nicer the mornings are when I do this. Gives the effort some purpose in a way I hadn’t expected.

Found some silky scarves of my mum’s at the back of a wardrobe. Now some neatly folded in a drawer, others for wearing in this draughty house. Cut feet off holey socks for wrist and ankle warmers
