How often do you pull out furniture and clean/dust behind it?

I do it perhaps one a month but this was worse then ever.

A hefty chest of drawers in our bedroom, under which was 2 (odd) dusty toddler socks, a crisp packet, five travelcards, around £4 in loose change, my best eyeliner that I had scoured the house for, two toy cars and enough feathers to rederess a chicken.

I am doing the sofa next and I dread to think what I will find.

I can't remember... I'm so bad

I remember this story can't remember where from

Mum is entertaining friends when little boy appears covered in dust.
"whatever have you been doing?" asks mum
"playing under my bed" replies boy!!!

nowwearefour · 21/04/2008 14:19

thanks for the reminder- i dont think i have ever done it (beds and chest of drawers upstairs i mean). downstairs stuff gets done most weeks i guess

Bridie3 · 21/04/2008 14:19

Hey--those are my £4 in loose change. And whatever cash you find behind the sofa is MINE TOO.

charliecat · 21/04/2008 14:19

when i move house

3missys · 21/04/2008 14:21

About once a year (hangs head in shame) - although just found 6 raisians, a toy horse and a missing jigsaw piece under the cushions! NO such luck for me to find money!

Hulababy · 21/04/2008 14:21

Hefty stuff - never!

Under sofa - occasionally

Under chairs/tables - most times I vacuum

Under Tv cabinet, etc with lots of wires - rarely

Woollymummy · 21/04/2008 14:31

So far, when I move house and when I am only 2 weeks before my due date so not very often then. I am trying to train my DD in the art of "rootling around under the sofa" herself, so she can retrieve her own lost jigsaw puzzle pieces. She thinks it is good fun so far

Bramshott · 21/04/2008 14:33

When we moved house we found a very mouldy apple core under the sofa . In the new house I move the sofa out more often! I keep a mental tally of the stuff which falls down behind the piano (2 rulers, DD1's star chart etc) but there's no chance of me ever moving it!

TheDevilWearsPenneys · 21/04/2008 14:58

I agree what you can't see can't hurt.

But i was quite pleased with the bounty tbh

I just couldn't believe the feathers. We need a foamy duvet.

Never Thank god for a more clean-conscious DP.

Once during a house move I unearthed a very dead, very flat mouse from down the side of my bed In my defence, my bed was wedged into the room among lots of other furniture so not really movable (it was a short term stay in a friend's house), and my cats had gone kill-crazy and were always bringing in dead or dying prey. But still

TheDevilWearsPenneys · 21/04/2008 15:09

Eeeek!
I'd never get over that.

cyteen · 21/04/2008 15:14

One of my mum's girlfriend's once found a dead mouse wedged in the crumb tray of her toaster

pinkyminky · 21/04/2008 15:19

DH does that kind of hoovering- so say once a month? I do the other sort. My sister's MIL has a motto for when she had three under four- If you've hovered round, then you've achieved! I go with that maxim. That aand, if the going gets tough, lower your standards.
We found a mummified loach behind the fish tank cupboard once. We though the other fish had eaten him

franke · 21/04/2008 15:24

lol @ Woollymummy. I pulled out our sofa this morning and cleaned behind it - I'm due in 3 weeks

Psychomum5 · 21/04/2008 15:24

under the sofa....most times I hoover, so at least weekly.

under the table and chairs...every time I hoover.

TV cabinet....each time I hoover with the wandy bit, fully, never!

book shelves....each time I hoover I hoover the books, not under them tho, but then, dust would be ahrd pressed to get under as I have too many books.

beds etc.......each time I do a heavy clean, which is 6mthly roughly.

I change the furniture around a lot tho, as I gete very bored and it is cheaper than painting each time, so when I do, I therefore do much dusting

TheDevilWearsPenneys · 21/04/2008 18:23

I pulled out the sofa and found a book I'd forgotten I'd even bought, countless duplo pieces, a nasty looking pizza crust, a few coppers, a fiver, a dusty and dirty toddler t shirt and lots of dust.

Must clean up more often.

Bridie3 · 21/04/2008 18:55

CYTEEN!!!!!!

I think I'm going to have nightmares now.

blossomsmine · 23/04/2008 23:03

You put me to shame. Sofas i go move and hoover under about once a month. As for the cabinet and bookshelves in the lounge.....only when we decorate, can't remember when we last did that. Beds, very rarely as would take ages to move all the furniture to get the beds out.....same goes for wardrobes etc.,

waycat · 28/04/2008 06:32

Living room (eg: sofa, chairs, etc.) - every fortnight.

Boys' beds and desks - every week.

Books - hoover the tops every two weeks.

Really heavy stuff - probably every 4-6 months, or whenever DH is around to help.
