Rain sensor

I love drying my laundry in the garden ...so I'm just wondering if there is such a thing as a sensor I can put out side with the washing, that would alert me when it starts to rain(via a ding on my mobile phone, or some sort of device inside the house). Over to you, oh wise ones!

You can get apps that will warn you that rain will start in x minutes. The iPhone built in app does it, but there will be others I’m sure.

I do have a weather app on my phone but it's not that accurate.
Hence looking for an actual 'thing' that will alert me when it starts raining, so I can dash out and rescue my laundry!

I know that there are devices like you want for blind people. That might help your search.

Hi, MTPlate,
I was delighted to read your post as I have been hunting for exactly the same thing. I've found expensive sensors which require hard-wiring and a Chinese export which requires a gateway. I imagine you have found the same.
If I get anywhere I'll come back and let you know.

Hi MTPlate,
A quick update for you. The RNIB has no sensors available, of the type we are looking for, through their 'Products For Life' store and do not know of any. They do admit that is sounds like a very good and useful idea and given me a contact number for a group of retired engineers who 'enjoy a challenge'. Watch this space. MJN
