Reputting french door windows

We have edwardian french doors that need an overhaul. The putty in the windows has deteriorated and needs replacing. They allow rain to leak in.

I had thought of doing it myself but am worried it will look awful. Would a glazier do the job even though the glass doesn't need replacing.

Going to phone for quotes but wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Don't have any advice but make sure the glazier doesn't suggest new glass. Nothing can replace that original glass with its textures and irregularities. Have you looked in any diy books? My dad used to reputty our windows and they looked ok.

Thanks tanee. It's quite a big job. Lots of panes. Definitely will hold onto original glass. Just not sure I will make a good job of it. Glaziers would be really speedy. Very appealing despite cost.
