Having a clear out, got a set of v scary kitchen knives that I don't want, but what can I do with them? Can't put them in the bin or the skip (surely I can't?), charity shops won't want them will they ... what do you do with unwanted knives? Thanks

I put them in the bin but I wrap them in thick cardboard first then cover in duck tape.

Really, is that all right then? just thought maybe I could ask council for advice as well. Thanks

I don't know really whether that's the right thing to do, it's just what I've always done. I do the same with broken glass too.

freecycle them? Better for the environment than throwing them away.

Take them to local council tip. Ask the nice people who work there which skip to put them in. If the knivesy have any recycling value, they will keep them aside.

The guys at my local tip are great. I went there with old baking tins once, they had a special "recyclable metals" bin to put them in. They were pleased to be asked and happy to help.

(p.s. don't make special car journey to tip without scouring the house first for lots of other unwanted things you can't give away or freecyle).
