Buying a dishwasher. Do I have to use Autodos?

Dishwasher stopped working yesterday (10 year old AEG).

My short list is Miele or Bosch but I see that lots of Miele have autodos - which I don't want. Is there still a compartment for a tablet to go in? I think I'd prefer that.

Yes. You get both options.

If you buy a Miele you get a free autodos pod thing with it and a voucher for 6 more as a freebie.

So you can have 6 months or so of autodos joy.

By the way. I thoroughly recommend Miele. So much quieter than any other dishwasher I've come across.

I have an autodos Miele washing machine, I hate it so my answer is avoid it like the plague and chose one that doesn't .

I do have a Miele dishwasher though and it's whisper quiet, just avoid the autodos.

We have a Miele autodos. Love it, it’s super quiet and we’ve found a way to refill the autodos cartridges

Do you get the same results putting your own powder in to the cartridges?

Our AEG (that has just died) was 42 db, same as Miele I'm looking at. I never knew when it was on...it was so quiet.

I'm looking at AEG again - even although their after service is rubbish. Perhaps they all are. I do love the quick programmes they have. I think there's a 30 min one and the one I use most is a 50 minute one.

I don't rate the detergent at all, I don't want to get down on my knees ( I can't actually so DH has to do it) to replace the cartridges. The whole thing is so over engineered it's the opposite of the Miele one we had before that was 23 years old that was basic but perfect.

Yeah, absolutely

I have the entry level Miele one, and it has the compartment for the tablet/powder.

I did contemplate the autodos, but decided against it as I did not want to tied to only using the Miele detergent. Or refilling it if I could.

I also think its one less complication really.

I do absolutely rate the cutlery tray over the basket. Frees up so much space on the bottom rack.

On my Miele there are quite a few quick settings.

And you can choose any setting and then press the Turbo button which cuts the time by nearly half.

The quick setting is 45 mins, but with Turbo is 8 minutes. This is quite good if you need to rinse something. I do sometime use the 8 min one if want to give a half load a rinse before I carry on filling it if I didn't turn it on and waiting too fill it some more.

My most used programme is the sensor wash. So it gauges how long and how much water etc. On average, that one is about 1.30 - 1.45 hrs.

Maybe this helps a little to make a decision.

Oh interesting. I keep reading "no quick wash". Think I'll need to go to a department store and have a look myself and ask questions.

Thanks all. I don't want to be beholden to Miele's detergent either and I think it's an expensive gimmick. I couldn't be bothered refilling those things either - and where to keep them! They're not small.

We have autodos. Used the free packs that came with the machine and then swiftly switched to dishwasher tablets instead.

Autodos works fine but the refills are £££

Oooo love the idea of a turbo button!

My Bosch dishwasher is very quiet and also has a vario speed button that halves the programme time
