How to clean a fabric headboard?

I use tinted hair mousse (washes out of my hair easily) and some of the colour has rubbed off onto my fabric headboard over time. What else can I try to remove it?

I've tried a steamer - left water marks, Dr Beckman upholstery brush cleaner, car upholstery foam and another type of carpet/upholstery cleaner) can't remember which as i threw the empty bottle away). These all just kind of smudged the colour and again left water marks.

Anything else I can try? (I have now bought a v shaped pillow so that when I sit up in bed my head doesn't touch the headboard).

It is possible that the steamer might have helped to set the colour further in to the fabric.

I would apply a detergent/ upholstery cleaner and leave it to work for a bit before blotting with a clean damp white cloth. This way you can see on the cloth if the colour is lifting at all.

A carpet cleaner with upholstery nozzle would also be useful, if you have access to one, as this would suck out the moisture and hopefully the colour.

Thank you @Swissrollover. I'll see how that goes.
