Super king bed with 2 separate duvets

I've read about this and it seems like a good idea. It will make the bed changing process easier with two smaller duvets and we can both have our own duvet rather than fighting over one.

My only concern is the duvet length on a super king bed.

Single & double duvets are 200cm long.
King & superking are 220cm long.

Would singles or doubles be too short on a superking bed? Who here has this setup and can confirm it works ok?

Morning
I have this and it works really well as we have different preferences for duvet thickness and it makes changing the bed much easier as you say. I haven't noticed any problems with the length of the duvets but we are 5'6" and 5'10".
The only (v minor) annoyance is getting the duvets lined up in the centre when making the bed so it looks nice. I wouldn't go back to having one quilt.

WASZPy · 12/09/2024 06:56

We have this and it's heaven. The duvets cover the beds fine.

StewardsEnquiry · 12/09/2024 07:29

People who do this, please can you tell me what size duvets you have?

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 12/09/2024 07:32

We used to do this. Had a super king and two doubles. We did it when dd threw up all over super king duvet at night and I had to run to Asda who only had doubles available. It’s good as dh now had his own wool duvet and I have a thick but cheap one. They are fine for length but they do overlap in the middle.

MumChp · 12/09/2024 07:33

Works fine

TerfTalking · 12/09/2024 07:35

I love this idea, when we go skiing the beds are like two heavy single beds pushed close together and made up separately, so comfy. I would like the separate mattresses too.

….. come to think of it separate rooms would be even better 😀

Willyoushutthefrontdoor · 12/09/2024 07:42

We had this on holiday last year and it was great. In fact I don't know why we haven't got separate quilts here...Conversation to be had!

OhEs · 12/09/2024 07:56

We do this but with superking duvets, as we have an all seasons duvet made up of two sections.

mitogoshi · 12/09/2024 07:59

It's the norm in Germany, also was like this in Finland thinking about it. Not keen myself though

The ease of changing the bedding is the deciding factor for sure. I'm only 5.6'' but DH is well over 6ft so I'm a little worried about the duvet length. I can but try I suppose! Thank you.

Yes, this would be useful to know I agree.
I was thinking 2 singles but maybe 2 doubles would be better despite the shorter length compared to K or SK.

Thank you! I'm off to Asda 😁

We use 2 ikea single duvets which I think are bigger than U.K. singles but smaller than U.K. doubles. So fab to have my own duvet!

LeafHunter · 12/09/2024 09:19

We have a king bed and have two king duvets - one each. I hate changing it but it’s worth it for the stress of fighting over the duvet

We have Swiss size singles which are, unfortunately, not available in UK. They are more like a three quarter size at 140cm wide and longer than UK duvets. The problem is that we can only get replacement duvet covers when we visit Switzerland!

Davros · 13/09/2024 00:28

We had two single duvets on ours and two single mattresses. I always put a bedspread over as it looks better than the two duvets which could then be in any pattern or colour covers. I'd keep them different so I knew which was mine and which was DH's

magicstar1 · 13/09/2024 00:35

We have a double duvet each and have no problem with the length.

AnotherEmma · 13/09/2024 00:41

ATM we have a king size bed and not enough space for a super king, but if we did have the space I'd get a super king and use the new bed as an excuse for new separate duvets. Genius, I would love it.

Not separate mattresses though - had that on holiday (when we just had 2 single beds pushed together) and it's so impractical when you have sex on the bed, someone always end up with their bum or knee in the gap 😂

Davros · 13/09/2024 11:23

@AnotherEmma 😹 not a problem for me! 🙏

crazycatladie · 13/09/2024 19:11

We have a super king ikea hemnes bed and use two ikea single duvets, fits perfectly.

crazycatladie · 13/09/2024 19:13

Forgot to say, we have two single mattresses but a super king good quality ikea topper and use a super king fitted sheet.

Chocolateporridge · 13/09/2024 19:25

We have a king sized bed and we use 2 Single duvets. We have the type where you can fasten another layer of duvet to it (all-season) so if one of us wants a thicker duvet but the other one doesn't there's no issue!

For me it's been great because my DH was always waking me up by accidentally pulling all the duvet to his side, plus I'm perimenopausal so I toss and turn a lot and get flushes!

We're both around 5"9 and I do find the single duvets a little bit short to be honest.

Tumbleweed101 · 14/09/2024 08:21

Single duvets with a bedspread. Keeps the bed looking neat when it is made and can be tucked in under the mattress to keep feet warm if the duvet is a little short at night.
