An extremely boring question about sofa throws, especially if you have a dog

Sorry for inane question: long story but I’ve reached the point of fatigue where I can’t think straight!

My sofa covers are cream from IKEA . They wash really well and I combine those with loose dog blankets for summer and it works well.

Now autumn is coming and the rain, and muddy paws etc, I have bought some brown all-encompassing sofa throws (they are actually a nice dark taupe shade of brown, not hideous) and I want to know please …

… do you put the cream ones back on the cushions after washing? And then the brown massive throws/covers on top?

Or do you put the brown all-encompassing covers straight over everything without the cream underneath? Will marks go through to actual seat cushions etc?

I know, I know, I win a prize for most dumb question of the month! 😃😂🙈

Thanks for any pointers though!

Oh well I guess it was a very boring question …

I’d put them over the covers, personally.

I have recently purchased a giant elasticated sofa cover from Amazon... a bit like a onesie for a sofa. Completely washable. Absolute gamechanger!!

wetotter · 07/09/2024 18:08

I put throws over the cushion covers.

Yes, throws plural. First there's a big washable one that's a complete dirt barrier. On top of that is a fleecy one that fits in with the decor (also washable, I have a couple of these as they're the ones that are most likely to need washing).

Edited to add: PS DDog is a terrier and likes to burrow under them (I didn't think she could get under the dirt barrier until she did!) so we're probably going to have to reupholster at some point because scrabbling claws damaged the fabric in places. But the layers of multiple throws mean the smell doesn't get in to the cushions, nor do they get damp

Yes, covers first then throws.
it might be worth a look on eBay for an extra set of covers, if they’re worn they could be the winter covers under the throws iyswim

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 07/09/2024 20:57

Wash the dog’s feet/legs. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Your just hiding the dirt, it’s still there!

wavingfuriously · 07/09/2024 20:57

We find dark coloured fleece throws very practical, can be washed frequently and are cosy👍 over the cushion covers 😀

We live rurally so the dogs get washed in a sort of mud room , which sounds posh but very much isn't, before they are let in to the main house.

And anyway, if you wash the dog blankets and dog covers regularly then surely you are keeping things clean, which is the whole point of this post, so not not sure I appreciate your implication thanks!

Not implying anything… confused by what I might imply. It’s just what I do. You said you switched from cream to dark as they have muddy paws, which they bring indoors? Perhaps I misunderstood.🤷🏼‍♀️

Thats a bit of a swerve!

You literally said, “Your (sic) just hiding the dirt, it’s still there!”

So you are implying that I don’t keep a clean house.

And I did not say my dogs entered the house with muddy paws thanks very much. If you read my op properly, I said, “Now autumn is coming and the rain, and muddy paws etc”

So please don’t be disingenuous!

This thread is literally about how best to keep my house clean so I don’t appreciate your snippy comment thank you!

I just went down an Amazon rabbit hole looking at these kind of things and look at the picture on this one!! Shock

@BlueBobble , is yours good? A lot of the reviews say they are thin so muck may come through. Sorry to derail op, not a boring thread for me at all clearly!!

Lordy lord my eyes!!

Mine is good. I have M&S cushions on it and it looks fine, no worse quality. I have a velour one with the square textured design. I mean... it's not waterproof. But definitely dry mucky dog, sticky hands and crumb proof. I actually use mine to keep the sun off but I was surprised how good it is.

Reading the reviews you might struggle if you have two of different sizes in the same room. They may be made from different batches of the same fabric so slightly different shades.

What? Jesus Christ woman- what a word salad. Yes YOU said it “Now autumn is coming and the rain, and muddy paws etc”

“This thread is literally about how best to keep my house clean” (yet gets offended when someone says clean the dogs- cos it’s easier) no…. Get a brown throw 😆 or get covers, on covers 🙈🤷🏼‍♀️😆fucking hell.

I don’t want to engage in a tedious back and forth but you actually started this with your unnecessarily rude know-it-all comment:

Your (sic) just hiding the dirt, it’s still there!

The “word salad” is all yours now you are trying to wriggle out of it!
