Cleaning properly once a week or a bit every day

Do you ladies clean the whole house once a week and virtually do nothing to it the rest of the week of you do a bit of cleaning every day? What I mean is not wipe or brief hoover, but cleaning the top of the cooker let's say and things like that?

I try to clean as I go day to day to stop the little messes piling up, and someone comes in and does two hours proper cleaning for us once a fortnight (bathroom, kitchen, floors etc). It's our one extravagance as I'm chronically ill and 35 weeks pregnant and my partner has ADHD and works offshore so is rarely around and when he is, he is an absent minded chaos tornado.

Peonies12 · 30/08/2024 21:29

Both me and my husband (why only ladies!) do bits everyday. Much easier and keep it nice

Alienbigcat · 30/08/2024 21:31

I do virtually nothing most of the month.

DurhamDurham · 30/08/2024 21:35

We tidy as we go, house always looks ok before we go to bed. Tend to clean properly once a week of we can, either a Tuesday when husband is off or Friday when I'm off. If we're out and about on our day off we try to get it done bit by bit a couple of evenings after work.
We never do any housework or shopping on a weekend, we keep those relaxing or fun depending on how we feel.

anareen · 30/08/2024 21:38

Maintain throughout the week and do a more thorough clean on a weekend day.

Lemonademoney · 30/08/2024 21:41

I do a bit of a maintenance tidy each day. Little bits of cleaning eg surfaces, toilets, kitchen floor and then a big clean once a week. I’ve tried loads of different ways but I’m always having to clean something however I try to split it.

AV1521 · 30/08/2024 21:53

I clean bathrooms once a week, toilets more frequently. Hoover every day. Dust and polish as I notice the dust building up so quite frequently! Clean kitchen surfaces after every meal, clean hob every day. Mop floors once a week. I do feel like I’m constantly cleaning/tidying but it is just in my nature.

outsidedoggy · 30/08/2024 21:57

Both really. Clean kitchen every night before bed after cooking, in the morning again after breakfast/do dishwasher, run the robot hoover every day thoughout entire downstairs. I WFH so use my ‘commute’ time to walk the dog and something every day - eg a bathroom or tidy a cupboard or a couple of windows or de-cobweb downstairs.

Lovely cleaner comes once a fortnight to do top to bottom and stuff I hate like bath and shower.

I tend to also do a deep clean seasonally eg sitting room before winter, as we spend loads of time in there in colder months, and bedroom when I change over winter and summer clothes.

kitsuneghost · 30/08/2024 21:59

Once a week. Both me and male partner

Aquamarine1029 · 30/08/2024 22:02

I think a bit every day is required. At least for me and my husband. For example, we always make sure our kitchen is completely clean at the end of the day, and that definitely couldn't happen if we only cleaned once a week, and I personally could never leave dirty dishes laying about.

I think if your house is normally clean and tidy, it's a lot easier to stay on top of it.

CharSiu · 30/08/2024 22:10

Little and often and it’s shared between DH and I.

Supersimkin7 · 30/08/2024 22:14

Daily maintenance - wash up, wipedown, laundry and robovac + one heavy job.

Eg Changing beds.

You never need to lose a day to housework.

AliMonkey · 30/08/2024 22:14

We do the basic things each day like wiping over the kitchen surfaces and keeping things generally tidy, and then do the rest across the week on days we aren't working. Hoover, clean bathrooms, sinks, toilets once a week; dust every 2-3 weeks depending on the room (eg bedrooms every 2 weeks, hall and guest room every 3); clean the inside of the windows about once a year ...

herecomesautumn · 30/08/2024 22:35

But of both

Small cleans as I go along and proper clean at the weekend

Nothing ladylike about me though

DustyMaiden · 30/08/2024 22:41

I would clean the top of the cooker every time I use it. Clean up after any mess is made. Hoover any spilled crumbs with cordless vacuum cleaner.

weekly deep clean and hoover with proper hoover.

KATHSTYLE · 30/08/2024 22:43

I have a cleaner every Monday for two hours - she does all the standard things and I change the bedlinen and towels.

I spritz and wipe over our shower room and downstairs loo (basin and loo) every day.

I wipe down the kitchen all day every bleedin' day!

On Fridays I do a top up clean before the weekend - hoover everywhere and change the towels again.

One off spring-cleany things like cleaning on the top of kitchen cupboards and the blinds get done once in a blue moon when my cleaner feels the urge - she'll stay on for a bit of extra time.

I really don't love cleaning but I do love my house being fresh and nice.

MermaidMummy06 · 30/08/2024 22:50

During the week. The weekend is risky as there's always so much going on & it will mean me doing it. If I'm out, DH will 'get distracted' and not do anything & I end up doing most of it.

I do almost all the deep cleaning stuff, though. When I am home on the weekend & DH is out or sleeping in.....

Meadowwild · 30/08/2024 22:52

I clean the kitchen every day. I hoover the living space when it needs hoovering and clean the loo and bathroom taps every day. The rest - once a week.

Anjo2011 · 30/08/2024 23:26

Little and often. Daily whizz round (downstairs) with Hoover, kitchen always clean before we go to bed. I try to keep on top of my washing so I dont have loads to do in one go. I do something every day even if it’s only something little.

HauntedBungalow · 30/08/2024 23:42

I do bits every day but I've never found a method that allows me to feel that it's anything other than an open neverending chasm task.

Butwhataboutthelastcopy · 30/08/2024 23:54

Daily - 6 days a week:
-one load washing from beginning to end
-one element of bathroom (either loo, sink, shower, floor, bath, or surfaces) as I hate cleaning the bathroom and don’t want it to build up
-clean kitchen as I cook

Twice weekly (Mon & Thurs) : all floors

Once weekly : dusting, change beds, and everything else, usually Fridays.

theduchessofspork · 30/08/2024 23:55

As little as possible personally.

JLT24 · 31/08/2024 00:11

Daily
Me
Morning - Tidy up, make/change beds, one load of laundry on, bleach toilets & bathroom sinks, top up toilet rolls, fresh hand towels, put clean laundry away
Throughout the day - stack dishwasher, wipe kitchen surfaces
Evening - hang up laundry to dry/put in tumble dryer

Husband
Morning - Empties bins and dishwasher
Evening - after dinner wipes down kitchen including hob, dining table, worktops, dishwasher on, hoovers downstairs

Weekly
Me - Clean kitchen appliances on rotation eg washing machine one week, dishwasher next, inside microwave and fridge next etc

Fortnightly
We have a cleaner who does everything else - dusts, hoovers, mops, bathrooms

Every 3 months
Cleaner does a deeper clean eg behind furniture, oven, inside windows, inside cupboards

Viviennemary · 31/08/2024 08:32

theduchessofspork · 30/08/2024 23:55

As little as possible personally.

Me too. Overwhelmed at the cleaning routines here. I've had cleaners before but they get on my nerves. Thinking of trying again.

cjsxx · 31/08/2024 11:55

We keep up with it briefly on a daily basis (ie tidying toys, washing up, vacuuming crumbs when necessary etc) but I'd say we do a thorough clean once a week like vacuuming whole house, wiping down the windowsills, cleaning the bathroom etc :)
