Dishwasher with cutlery basket - Recommendations please!

Whilst failing miserably (just plain miserable, TBH) to cope with washing up in the Utility Room sink during New Kitchen upheaval, we threw in the towel and bought a used Miele dishwasher with a top cutlery tray, with the plan to offload it to our offspring (new home) when the new appliances take over. Its internal layout gave us the chance to try the different format (our old DW died, but had a basket in the lower drawer).
We really don't get on with the tray (fiddly, not enough room for tall glasses and plates, and I'm not changing either just to suit a poorly laid-out racking system) and have decided that the new new DW will have a basket.

Big Q: What models are available with a basket? Or do I just buy a tray one, take it out and move the top drawer up, which seems a waste to me (is there a market for unwanted cutlery trays)?

Budget: Bosch Series 6 or similar, integrated.

I await bestowal of the collective MN wisdom!

Thanks.

I would never choose a dishwasher with a cutlery basket - as you lose so much space on the bottom.
My Miele (with a tray at the top) can fit glasses with no issues, I just have to adjust the height of the middle shelf. My daughter has a Bosch with a tray and an adjustable middle rack also.

We took the cutlery tray off our Bosch, complete waste of space and far too fiddly to lay each item out. Never cleaned egg or similar off forks or spatulas.
We rejigged the bottom layer and sent off to Bosch for a cutlery basket (giving our previous model number), never looked back.

We've a AEG FSS63607P_BK Built In Full Size Dishwasher in Black for about 6 months. Love a basket, hate a drawer personally. I think this one comes in different models (with or without basket/shelf) so get the right one. Works well.

Ours came with both drawer and basket so I'd buy a bog standard basket and has it in the bottom.

Bosch slimline series 2 £500 John Lewis integrated

Had it two weeks, just replaced the previous 15year old Bosch slimline.

I know exactly what you mean. I find the cutlery shelf thing weird at my mum's and every holiday let. I also find the standard one, too big and DH goes Greta if he finds it going 2/3s full.

I like the slimline so it's used, full, everyday. Family of four. Fits baking trays and saucepans plus the random stuff from breakfast, dinner, mugs, etc.

I'm still investigating the programmes but there's a speed one so if you had a house full you could easily do several loads in a day for Christmas, etc.

I have a Neff with a tray for cutlery ( I was limited for choice as its a Fully Intergrated , bought from John Lewis)

I did have a DW with a basket before
TOP TIP - buy 2 baskets . Then one is in the DW in use and the other is being filled .

Do not, do not I repeat get a Caple DW. Or any of their other appliances. We have their integrated DW and microwave. The DW has never worked properly. It didn't work after installation and they tried to palm me off with a second hand one. I dont think so and this was after they told me I didn't load it properly. 😡
So much I could say but no just don't get one. And the stuff doesn't fit in properly. Ruined my love for my new kitchen.

My old DW had a cutlery basket. When it died, having tried and failed to get along with DWs with cutlery trays in other people's houses, I was determined to get a DW with a cutlery basket again. However, it was very difficult to find one! We ended up getting a DW with a cutlery tray and initially tried using our old cutlery basket in it, but it slithered around, didn't fit in the space very well and just didn't work.

I'm used to the cutlery tray now and the fussiness about positioning each item so precisely, but I'd still rather have a proper cutlery basket. I find the cutlery doesn't get as clean on the tray, and it never seems to be dry at the end of the cycle. I think it would be good to have a choice of tray or basket, and that seems to have been taken away.

Ooh, good tip. I wish the fuck I had thought of that when my kids were still living at home.

Also took the cutlery tray out as there wasn't enough room for water bottles, I ordered a basket from Amazon. We're moving soon so I'll be putting the tray back in and taking the basket with me as the new house also has a tray one!

@CharlieW19 do you know you can lower the height of your top basket so that tall glasses can fit?

Tried it, but our dinner plates prevent that.

They're not getting changed, both the glasses and crockery were beautiful wedding presents from my recently departed dad, and we are determined to not hide them away and 'save them for best', but use them and appreciate them and remember him every single day.

I had the same problem with the cutlery tray that came with my Neff dishwasher.

Luckily I had kept the basket from my previous machine which I think was a Bosch. Yes, it's a waste of a cutlery tray but can't be helped.

Hated the tray anyway!
