Nespresso coffee machine help

We had a very old Nespresso that has just sadly given up. I managed to get a great deal on pods in the Black Friday sale. 😳

Can anyone recommend a machine which uses the old-style pods?

Don't bother with a Vertuo.
Citiz I think is best having used almost all of them.

We have a Creatista for the aesthetic but it's very expensive.

We have the Sage Creatista Plus which is great but expensive.

Love our Creatista with the built in frother. Although it always demands a clean out at inopportune moments...

This all sounds very complicated, I have been thinking of buying one. Wouldn't know where to start. I'm the only one drinking coffee and would only have one or two cups a day. I wouldn't spend a fortune, which one?

Cheapest. Probably Essenza Mini. They all do the same thing really. Marketplace tends to have plenty of machines in good condition.

Only the vertuo machines take different pods. All the others take the original pods.

@AKAanothername so the bigger pods are new? When the guy was showing them to me in JL I said I’d never seen them before and he was like “oh, certainly, they’ve been around for 12 years”, it really made me doubt myself.

I think he is right. We’ve had a Nespresso since 2008, and I remember getting a promo letter from Nespresso about the vertuo a long time ago ( and a tea machine - that vanished without trace). I looked at it but I couldn’t see the point, if you want weaker coffee, just put more water in, ours works as long as you are pressing the button…

Anyway, we have always had promotional prices on the machine from Nespresso, we get the capsules mail order. We’ve gone onto the subscription now which is a bit cheaper and less ordering.

our neighbours chucked their vertuo and bought a ‘proper ‘ one when after they had come round to ours for coffee!

No they're not new!

I've a Vertuo for about five years, and they were around before that.

The Grind machine. Looks great, works really well and their customer service is brilliant.

I LOVE my Nespresso Creatista Plus

I tried the cheaper Lor one and it didn't work very well (maybe a one-off) so we sold it and got a new Nespresso Citiz instead - I think a black friday deal. Love it!

OolongTeaDrinker · 30/08/2024 17:18

We had a vertuo machine briefly, but sold it on eBay as you can only buy pods from Nespresso and soon realised what a pain that was. Instead we got a refurbished Hotel Chocolat Podster also from eBay, which is compatible with the original pods and was only around £30 and works perfectly ☕️

I have the Nespresso Inissia Coffee Machine, with a milk jug/frother from Lidl. It’s compact, takes the top hat style pods, and like you I only occasionally drink coffee at home. Espresso before the commute and a cappuccino occasionally at weekends.

I buy pods, which are compostable from CoalTown Coffee online. This style of pod is definitely more accessible and easy to find.
