Struggling to find Hydrogen peroxide in chemists - why?

PaulaTrilloe · 21/08/2024 07:03

Ran out about 6 months ago.

Chemists used to stock small bottles of it to use on skin or as a gargle, can't find any for love nor money now,

Only thing with peroxide I can find is hair colouring creme but that's for hair not for skin or gargle

Any clues hive mind?

Ask the pharmacy if they have just stopped stocking it or if it is unobtainable. Also there is legal stuff around selling it so might just be that they don’t want to the hassle.

Try super drug
Scratch that.
Try Amazon.

ShakespearesSisters · 21/08/2024 07:07

They sell peroxide contact lens solution. It's 3% peroxide. Try that.

EatCrow · 21/08/2024 07:12

I bought mine in bulk from Amazon. Food grade 6%.

I dilute 5 parts water to 1 part HP.

PaulaTrilloe · 22/08/2024 07:20

Thanks all. I reckon the contact lens solution will do the trick if I find out why it's so hard to come by I'll let you know.

Had supply chain issues previously with Castor Oil and Magnesium Sulphate paste and Lemon Curd!!!

I get it on Amazon now.

timetorefresh · 22/08/2024 07:52

What do you use caster oil for?

What do you use caster oil for?

Hi @timetorefresh I use it to promote and stimulate hair regrowth following chemotherapy

That is for hair on my head and my eyebrows . Both are regrowing not sure if it down to that but it was part of my self care.

Others use it for skin care (against dry skin) and have heard it can be used as a poultice around abdomen if constipated (but not ingested orally).

Apparently Helen Mirren is a fan of Castor Oil for skin care

It was unavailable for about 10 months, I believe it's now possible for pharmacies to obtain it again from their wholesalers.
If you ask them to re-order it as they may be unaware it's now available as they have faced so many supply shortages since brexit.

stickybear · 22/08/2024 08:24

I use peroxide contact lens solution and have had to start getting it from Amazon as Specsavers no longer stock it, no idea why

PaulaTrilloe · 27/09/2024 07:57

I am pleased to say Boots now restocking Magnesium Sulphate paste but will need to order peroxide off Amazon,

I'm in Ireland and they sell it in the Polish shops here!

suki1964 · 29/09/2024 07:55

I asked in the chemist and got told it was a "controlled" item and could only be sold if a Pharmacist was available !!!

Bought off Amazon

FaiIureToLunch · 29/09/2024 07:59

I get it off Amazon, you can get two litres for £20, it’s much cheaper than those diddy wee bottles. I love H202. Even use it as a mouthwash.

apparently there’s a shortage since Brexit.

Remind me never to come to your house for cocktails.

Could I ask how and what you use it for? Why do you like using it so much? Thanks

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/09/2024 08:50

I think it gets used to make bombs. Maybe that's why some shops don't want to sell it. Amazon would have the delivery address although obviously people get round that.
