How to fix coffee cup damage to wooden table

SparklyPrincess · 16/04/2008 12:43

Hi, I have a dark wood coffee table upon which some inconsiderate visitor has placed (I think) a cup of hot coffee - ignoring the coaster which I placed on said table

This has left a lighter mark on the table.

Is there anything I can do??

Thanks

SP

I think you can get some stuff that polishes out ring marks...just can't remember the name. I used it and it was like a miracle!

Thanks - didn't think there's be something that obvious! Shall try to look it up...

MamaG suggested this tip to me and it worked! Teatowel over mark and iron it out. Warmish iron and no steam.

What sort of finish does the table have? Is it lacquered or varnished or just waxed?

You can always sand it out and re-wax/varnish but obv it will look different unless you sand the whole top and re-finish

Countess Dracula

Not sure. It kind of looks waxed to me. Not a really shiny surface, definitely.

If I was to sand it out I'd have to do the whole table (and the other two in the nest) or it would look odd I'm afraid!

It's particularly annoying as I've only had the darn table a few months!

Have just thought of the blindindly obvious and looked up the table on the website of the shop where I bought it. It's make of acacia wood - which apparently has a natural waxed finish but is lacquered and waxed as part of the finishing process.

Think I'm going to have to get professional help on this one...

Do the teatowel/iron thing first - it worked a treat on MAureenMLove's table

OK, will try the teatowel and iron trick later and let you know!

Not sure about a Brazil nut mammatulip - it's a very dark wood table!
