Cat destroyed sofa arm

My bastard cat has a thing about the sofa (black leather, imitation stuff but looked all right until he started), one corner of it particularly, and has clawed it so badly that the stitches have burst. It looks awful and I can't turn it round to hide it as the room's too small. Can this be repaired, and how much would it cost, or can you buy something, like an adhesive leather patch, to stick over it? Has anyone had this problem, maybe this thread would be better in the Litter Tray, as it's a common cat annoyance, I know.

I'd recommend you invest in a really good scratching post. This is your best chance of the cat not scratching furniture. I have this one, and he loves it so much he doesn't bother with the sofa or armchairs. www.petplanet.co.uk/p17848/smartcat_ultimate_scratching_post.aspx

I've got two! One is about six feet away from the sofa. He's just that sort of annoying cat.

But do you have the ultimate scratching post? Because most of them are pants. It has to be really high so the cat can stretch out. The short ones don't fulfil the brief.

Plus, your cat is NOT 'just that sort of annoying cat'. He's just a cat behaving normally in the context you provide. If you don't provide a big tall scratching post, then your sofa will be the next best thing.

Have you tried a flat scratch box? One of mine wouldn't use a post but went nuts for the box

Interesting, I will try to get a taller, broader post. Or a hessian sofa!
