Washing Machine Annoyance

HappyKite2067 · 11/08/2024 15:38

I’ve recently bought a Beko washing machine for £299. We were torn between a couple, and I was happy to spend up to £600 for a decent one. We went with the Beko because of good reviews and seemed to be the best value (DH preferred this option).

I hate it. Water pools at the bottom of the rim, the pods don’t dissolve and my clothes are coming out smelling musky. Our last one was a John Lewis and I’m reminiscing about it already.

We may be able to return it as it wouldn’t calibrate when we got it. Any advice on other washing machines? As long as we can return, I’m happy with up to £600. All I want is clean, fresh smelling clothes!

I am on my second Beko, I went for the most basic model as a lot of the programmes are never used, it has been reliable and does a good wash, never had a problem

I got a Samsung Series 5 last year and it's so good. I love the smart features, like telling us the best option for the weight etc, so many different cycles and also sends a message to the app when it's done. I got the biggest size inside (think 9 or 10kg) and am still amazed at how much I can get in there compared to my old one (they're the same size, standard unit).

Do you have an issue with pooling water in the rubber rim? There’s 3 drainage holes but the water just sits there- not sure if this is normal?

I thought about the Samsung, I think this is where I’m thinking of going to if I can’t resolve my Beko issues!

I got Hisense, paid £399 in Costco last summer and absolutely rubbish.
Clothes are dirty, water pools like yours, nothing dissolves, smells moldy.
Oh and I always use Calgon each wash, makes it even worse.
before I had Hotpoint and was same shit.
MIL has Bosch and says how amazing it is!

It really winds me up! I’m happy to pay more but not if it’s the same issues…so many mixed reviews.

Miele 😊 I bought the most basic Miele model and it is currently 9 years old and never once had a problem.

It cleans far far better than any other machine I've used - I never need to use stain remover.

It's an absolute workhorse.

I highly recommend Samsung add wash. It’s the best washing machine I’ve ever owned. Great features and washing comes out lovely and fresh. It has a cloudy day programme where the clothes are spinned for longer so dry quicker. The rubber rim doesn’t pool with water where as my old Beko one did.

Also with regards to detergent pods not dissolving properly. I’ve found wedging them inbetween where the fixings of drum are towards the back of the machine will enable them to dissolve fully.

I have an LG Turbowash..very happy with my machine..had it a couple of years now and used every day with no issues.

CatStoleMyChocolate · 13/08/2024 21:13

We got a Bosch when we replaced ours last year. It’s amazing. If you’re happy with a freestanding one, you might well get one for £600 (ours is integrated so more expensive).

CoffeeBeansGalore · 13/08/2024 21:16

I have a cheaper end Miele. Best machine I've ever had.

Had a Hisense. It was dreadful. I will never buy anything Hisense branded again.

SleepingisanArt · 13/08/2024 21:34

Just replaced a 20 year old Miele with another Miele! They cost more than £600 for the entry level model but are built to last. I don't use pods because an engineer once told me they are not great for the machine but powder and liquids work really well even on the 20° and cold wash. No pooling water, no musty smell just lovely clean fresh smelling clothes.

I have not had any issues with pooling, is you machine level?

Thank you- nice to hear from someone else with a Beko! It is level but maybe it’s just faulty?

I have a Bosch series six, very happy with it washes much better than the previous hotpoint which completely died after eighteen months.
