Crockery smells after dishwasher clean

Posting to see if anyone has had the same problem and can offer their advice.

I have a Siemens dishwasher. I run the 70 degree hot wash and extra dry cycle every 3 days when the dishwasher is full. Dishes come out clean but they smell like dirty stagnant pond water.

The machine is cleaned once a month with the finish dishwasher cleaner on the machine care cycle. The door seal is wiped, the filter removed and scrubbed and even the water that sits beneath the filter by the pump is sponged out and that area wiped down. I've even removed both arms and washed them through to make sure none of the holes are blocked with debris.

What else could be generating this smell? It puts me off eating breakfast / dinner when the crockery smells so bad.

I suppose the only answer is a new dishwasher but other than the smell, it works. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

The filter is cleaned regularly and we have most recently (the last 5 cleans) sponged the water out to clean around the propeller. Nothing particularly nasty comes out.

I ran a mid month clean last night but used a glass bowl with 2 cups of white vinegar. Interestingly, the bowl was full of murky water after the clean so your theory of a pumping issue does fit.

I will pull the machine out this weekend to check the hose and see how that sits on the back of the machine. I can empty the contents into a bucket as well to see what comes out.

Do you live in a hard water area? But some non brand rinse aid. Add it to your wash cycle.

Spent months, and money (plumber, diswasher repair) before figuring this out.

Try a full cup of vinegar in the upper tray next cycle. If it sorts the problem? It’s your water. Buy some rinse aid and keep the compartment topped up.

I find this too! It's a funny smell, but using stronger dishwasher tablets makes it smell like soap which is equally off putting.
I now just wash by hand... just as quick really as loading a dw

Mine is exactly the same !Under guarantee so the engineer visited and had no idea what was causing the problem .Contacted dishwasher tablet manufacturer, no idea
Like you I carry out all the cleaning, maintenance instructions to the letter.
