Anyone make their own washing line from scratch?

I was thinking of the one my mum had in her old house, you know, 2 concrete posts with the line in between so the clothes can blow around and dry quick. Currently we string the line from fence to fence but it blocks the view. A concrete post is prob out of question, has anyone had any sucess with metal or wooden poles with line in between (Not interested in the rotary/retractable type - not yet anyway!)

We've done this. We have metal posts with a line in between, and there's a pulley system for raising/lowering the line. We do have a rotary airer too, but the 'proper' line is just brilliant for drying sheets and duvet covers.
