How to find a cleaner

I need to find a cleaner in Berkshire. It is for my elderly aunt and not me. How do I find someone who I know will be trustworthy and effective? I have tried all of her neighbours already. All tips welcome!

Talk to someone local who uses one? We got our first cleaner that way and when she stopped cleaning she handed us on to a friend.

Our local Facebook page for example?

Join FB group for town or city and ask for recommendations. Then search for previous posts - we found ours that way. We had a few suggestions and contacted them. Three came round and quoted, and we went for the one who could offer a Friday slot. We were very honest about what we wanted and that we didn't want them in school holidays. Be prepared to try more than one - we booked for four weeks initially.

The Next Door website is usually very good for this

My aunt has Attendance Allowance, and was able to get a list of 'home helps' to interview from the Age Concern in her area. She has someone once a fortnight and he hoovers, cleans her shower etc. £22 for an hour.
