Where do you empty mop/bin water?

When mopping or swishing out food bins etc., where do you empty the water? Down sink/toilet? Or can it be used on garden etc.? Might be a daft question, I'm just not sure what is best to do and I've heard it's illegal to empty into drain outside.

Utility room sink normally or drain outside under drain pipe. Never really gave it much thought tbh.

I pour it down the sink and have never actually thought about it.

You can use it, along with water from washing up to water your garden. Some people collect water from the shower/bath for their garden too in the same way that people connect a water butt to the downpipe from their gutter. Obviously don't use if there's bleach etc in the water.

Pour it down the drain your kitchen sink drains into. It's only illegal to tip dirty water down surface water drains, the ones that are just for your guttering. Or chuck on garden.

I empty it down the outside drain, that my kitchen sink water flows into.

toilet

Toilet or same drain as the kitchen/bathroom one. As long as it goes in the grey/waste water system it'll be treated for safe release into the environment.

Everything that goes down surface drains (the ones in the road for example) goes directly into streams/rivers/sea with no treatment or intervention.

If you're not using harsh chemicals you can reuse the water on your garden plants...but I seem to kill plants without even trying so I'm not venturing down that avenue personally!

Down the toilet .

Toilet.

After mopping the kitchen floor I used to pour the waste water down the drain in the street.

Our downpipes are sealed at the bottom, as is the outside drain from the pipes inside.

Thanks everyone, I like the idea of using on the garden. We do have a water butt but it's only little so makes sense when garden is very dry to use extra waste water. I don't use any harsh chemicals so would be fine on most plants I reckon.
