Where do YOU keep your computer in your house?

Ours is in what used to be the study, but is now spare room/computer room. This is a bit inconvenient when someone comes to stay, and cuts me off from DS when I want to work on the computer as spare room is tiny.

I want to move it to alcove in our bedroom, or downstairs in the lounge but DH says this will be too distracting.

Ours used to be in what is now the nursery! It is now in an alcove in the lounge.

For those of you with computer's in their lounge....Is it distracting having the computer in the lounge especially when the TV is in there too? Does the TV put you off your work on computer or vice versa?

Desk top in the study/craft room and 2 lap tops for else where, usually one in the family room and one in the adults room.

paddingtonbear1 · 14/04/2008 09:50

Our desktop PC is in the dining room, which isn't currently used as a dining room!
I also have a laptop which is just anywhere. It's normally in the spare room if it's not being used.

OverMyDeadBody · 14/04/2008 09:51

We have an L shaped living room and the study/snug is in one half, with the computer, lots of shelves and books and a small very old comfy sofa. It divides the room nicely into saork area and relaxing sitting room area.

ComeOVeneer · 14/04/2008 09:51

Main computer is in the study (or DH's "home office" as he likes to call it. It was the 4th bedroom. We have wireless connection so I take my laptop all over the house/garden. We have a 3rd receptions room which has a sofa bed for guests (also the childrens' playroom so depending on who the guests are we either give up our bedroom for them and we sleep in playroom, or they sleep in playroom, or we turf dd into study (or ds's room) on a ready bed and make her single into a double and the guests sleep in there).

TheFallenMadonna · 14/04/2008 09:55

Our fourth bedroom is tiny and only used as a filing cabinet (its about that big) and to house the desktop computer. Children use that one. DH and I have laptops.

DS's bed converts into a double, so guests sleep in there and he goes into DD's room.

It was a little annoying at first...but we've got used to it now after a couple of months - you just need to type a little quieter or have the sound turned down on games etc so it doesn't interrupt the tv

sparklesandnowinefor9months · 14/04/2008 16:57

we have a large kitchen/diner so its in the diner part of that, that way i can keep an eye when the DC are using it, and when i'm using it i can also see into the lounge and keep an eye on them

NomDePlume · 14/04/2008 17:02

Ours is in the study, but we also have a laptop which can be used all over the house and in the garden.

FWIW, I'd hate a pc in my living room. V ugly

Fimbo · 14/04/2008 17:08

We have a space on our middle landing (3 floor house) between a bedroom and the airing cupboard. There is enough room to get a desk in with the computer and printer, its right in front of the window too. We asked the builders to put a bt socket there before we moved in.

Fimbo · 14/04/2008 17:12

What is classed as the "study" in our house is actually ds's bedroom.

aGalChangedHerName · 14/04/2008 17:12

In our sunroom. Got a teen and almost teen so want it kept in a public place.

Wheelybug · 14/04/2008 17:13

DH's is in his study, Mine should be in my study but is a laptop so tends to wander around the house. Currently its in the kitchen.

mazzystar · 14/04/2008 17:16
