Organising a playroom with country/traditional decor

We have given up our second sitting room as a play room and the state of it in there is driving me to distraction.

However all toy organisation ideas I see are for a more modern/urban style of decor. The part of the house this room is in is very old with thick walls, floor to ceiling window and beams. The walls are a suitably country colour with oak furniture, tan leather and tweed sofa, horse and dog prints- you get the jist. There are two inlays each side of the fireplace which seem like they could be a natural fit for something, but there is an awkwardly placed small window and getting something bespoke to fit around it is ££££.

Everything is currently spilling out of an ever growing number of big baskets. I need to find something better which will keep it all away from my eyes, and be easily accessible for DC to get to things.

Any ideas very gratefully received!

I'd go for the ikea kallax or trofast, but go for natural colours.
Either that or get 'linen press' type cupboards.

BRANÄS rattan, Basket, 32x34x32 cm - IKEA
TROFAST storage combination with boxes, light white stained pine/white, 93x44x52 cm - IKEA
Explore KALLAX Cube Shelving Units - IKEA

The Ikea stuff is modern but it's very popular.

I'd go for a cheapish pine wardrobe, paint it a subdued colour & put shelves in it and put boxes and baskets inside

At our local auction Victorian mahogany furniture is very cheap especially if it is large. I’ve got a massive sideboard and a chiffonier. Can’t be tipped over and hold lots of toys

If you like the idea of cube storage but the ikea stuff is too modern, take a look at the Abbeville range on Great Little Trading Company. We have one of them for DD’s room and the quality is really nice, and the trim and rounded edges etc just makes it look a bit more traditional. And don’t buy full price, they constantly have offers on.

Wooden toy boxes on their sides like a mini cupboard and add shelves to them?

LadyoftheLavaLamp · 28/07/2024 22:21

@TheCraicDealer these are lovely but only seem to come in white!

Be prepared for it not to be a playroom. Dts and al their shite wanted ti be be wherever we were. Playroom equalled junk room.
