Why does my washing never smell nice using washer/dryer?

Recently downsized and had to get rid of tumble dryer and buy an aeg washer dryer combo. I’ve noticed that whenever I used the dryer function, the clothes smell plasticky and just not pleasant. Is there anything I can do to help them keep the fresh smell or is this just a down side to using a combo?

thanks!

are you using it as per instructions?

when we had a washer dryer we had to remove half the load as drying capacity is a lot less than washing.

Washer dryers are rubbish, they never smell nice! Mine smell much nicer if I use an airer

Is this a brand new machine? New appliances often smell like plastic when fresh out of the packaging; I tend to air them for a while first.
You can also try to add a bowl of bicarb / soda to sit in the drum whilst not in use (!), just don't forget to remove.
As the dryer uses only heat, it'll heat up the surrounding area within the machine, and new plastic tends to smell like new plastic, which then transfers to the clothes. The washer part won't be so noticeable because of the added water and detergent.

Alternatively you can consider using a washing machine cleaner product that you use without clothes and on a hot wash - there are various ones and check the instructions and ingredients as you have a brand new machine and don't want to do anything wrong. But they can help get rid of smells, too.

Airing out will probably be the most effective method.
