How Many Washing Powder Tablets for a 7.5kg load machine....

.. ... VERY HARD WATER where i live... and all the packets i buy advise 3 tablets...which just does NOT get mud/grass out of my son's jeans!!!
doing a smaller load works...but i bought the larger machine for a reason...to do larger loads!!!!

so does anyone use 4 tablets!!! (in these days of 'watching out for the environment i feel like a real cow as i cannot get clean clothes at 30 degrees...nor with 3 tablets....and i feel i am soley responsible for the whole in the ozone layer!!!!)

hard water is a reall pain in the neck- even shampoos have to be used in excess of manufacturers guidelines...and believe a water softnetr system is cosly/high maintanance???? but wonder if longterm we'd save money????

we have v hard water

I use half the recommended dose (ie one tablet for a normal machine)

use a vanish stick and a nailbrush on the stains - normal washing powder will never get them out however much you add

MUM23ASD · 10/04/2008 12:27

what about fabric conditioner?? that never seems enough in my big load machine??? though i guess compartment must have been designed with large load in mind!!!

(off to buy a vanish stick!!!)

I mostly use vanish (spray) on marks + one of those balls from Lakeland wash-it ball instead of washing tablets. the ball works brilliantly on everyday washing and i am sure it is cheaper in the long run

I agree that no amount of detergent will help. I use 1/2 the recommended amount and add some OXY which does help but some things just need to be pre-treated.

(No fabric conditioner here either. I love the smell too but not the rash on my skin!)

I live in a VERY hard water area. I use one or two tablets of soap, but always add Calgon. If clothes are stained I pre-treat with Vanish and also add a scoop of Vanish Oxi to the powder drawer.

Oh and I know this is likely to be unpopular, but 30c is COLD. I do stained stuff at 40 or 50c.

Fillyjonk · 10/04/2008 14:46

noooo

I use 1/4 tablet in mine. softish water but not insanely so.

for stains I don'twash extra. I do a presoak.

I also wash all clothes ex nappies on 30 minutes wash at 30 degrees.

MUM23ASD · 10/04/2008 17:43

i'm feeling very guilty filly after suggesting i use 4 tablets!!!!
