Did you put something else in with them that was already rusty? Bottom of a pan, pot or something? Because that would affect them.

Or possibly too much salt? Salt loose in the bottom of the dishwasher?

That will come off if you give if a rub over with metal polish. It comes in a silver tube, can't recall the name.

It's called Peek, £5 on Amazon. 👍

Thanks but if it’s going to keep happening ? And why I bought these to stop it happening with cheap sets

Yep. You should empty the dishwasher when it's finished. Not leave it all steamy inside for hours. Even if you just crack it open once it's done to let the steam out.
It's the steam that makes the knives pit.

Stainless steel can’t rust. In fact I can’t see rust, only a bloom. I’d rub one with a dampened magic cleaning sponge, rinse then buff with a dry tea towel.

I try to take my cutlery out as soon as the dishwasher finishes rather than leave them in a steamy atmosphere. It’s easy though as I still use a cutlery container, not a tray, so I can just hoik it all out and leave to cool on the drainer.

Yes we empty at least the cutlery immediately it seems I need to clean it with something special every time such a pain

Thanks all taken the cutlery tray out and used the basket a few times and just the same bicarb dosnt remove . So going to try the cleaner lady above suggested from Amazon and then not put them in the dishwasher they can go in the sink and all be washed at night

I’ll revise my previous suggestion to Barkeepers Friend. I bought some in Home Bargains - it’s available in other shops too.
Yesterday it worked its magic on a stainless steel pan which had developed a bloom.
