Hi everyone, My first post. Food recycling in summer, Not pleasant. Make a space in the freezer for your food recycling bag, fill till bin day. P.S. don't freeze bag larger than caddy. Enjoy your Summer. 😎Bella.💚

Not my first post - food recycling via dogs or landfill, I do recycle absolutely everything else though but food for 4 weekly collection 🤮🐀

Use bags for indoor caddy.

Tie and place full bags in outdoor caddy.

Secure caddy lid.

No problems.

HTH.

I find sending the children to take the food waste to the outdoor bin solves most issues with smell.

I try over summer to put catcher load of grass in first to help curb the smell.

No it doesn't help. We do this and have just had to cope - yet again - with an inside caddy crawling with maggots.

I empty it into the outside bin every couple of days and it's costing a fortune in bags. I hate this fucking system!

My inside caddy is in the cupboard under the sink and has a lid. No maggots ever.

Either your caddy doesn't seal properly or your foodwaste has already had fly eggs laid on it before disposal.

Ironically we hardly have any food waste anyway as most of it goes on the compost heap or into the wormery. I use the caddy the council supplied, and food waste goes straight in there after the meal.

I do put uneaten cat food and have realised that is the problem, so I will find another way to deal with that and that should sort this out.
