Washing never smells nice...

For years we've used fairy non bio powder or pods on the insistence of my husband and his sensitive skin. The washing has never smelt of anything strong afterwards. After being at my parents and using their ariel pods I was amazed at how fresh the laundry smelt for ages afterwards and decided to buy some for myself at home. Fast forward to now and I've just tried them but the washing still doesn't smell nice! So I'm guessing it's the machine/programme but I used similar timed programmes so guessing the machine but I've checked the seal for mould etc but there's none. I will try cleaning it but the only other thing I can think of is we have hard water they have soft - could that be it?

I find if I use liquid all the time my clothes can start to smell a bit odd. There seems to be a bit of a build up using liquid or pods. Can you try powder for a while and see if that helps. If chop and change between both.

Non bio powder or pods do cause washing machines to smell
Do you run the machine empty once a month in the hottest program? ,I put soda crystals in as they clean and deodorise (90 degrees) but I also put a heaped tablespoon in every laundry load as it keeps machine from smelling and softens the water

You definitely need to clean machines and do a hot wash occasionally - I do one with a delimescale product at least once a month.

I also recently discovered an antibacterial cleaner for washing machines and used that as I felt that there was a lack of freshness. I must say that I've been pleasantly surprised by the result.

And we routinely add bicarb to DS' workout clothes' loads as I'm convinced those loads leave lingering smells on clothes and machine for days! Grin

We use Persil non bio but only the powder FYI - we find the tabs just always make things weird.

Clean the machine in a cleaning cycle. I find dark clothes unless I take the em out the machine the second they finish smell damp. Light clothes and towels I can leave overnight! Dark clothes smell unless they are out within 30mins
