How do you get playdoh that has dried and matted into the carpet, out of the carpet?

Google offers a couple of suggestions.

Dampen a cloth with hot water, and place it on top of the play dough. Let it sit there for about an hour. This will soften the play dough, making it a lot easier to remove. Brush the play dough off the carpet with a stiff brush to remove any small bits of play dough stuck to the carpet.

Not helpful, but our solution was to replace the carpet. It sort of needed doing anyway but the play doh issue speeded it up.

Would placing an ice pack on it harden it enough to brush or pick out?
