Foot marks on bath mat

DH and I noticed brown footmarks on our shower mat earlier on this year and blamed it on DD and her fake tan.

We bought a new mat. DD hasn’t been using our bathroom since we got the new mat and neither DH nor I use fake tan or any form of tanning product but lo and behold, we have browny footmarks on the new one.

Any ideas what it can be from?

Someone not washing their feet properly?

Sweaty feet before shower, and sweat is a bit acidic - like those yellow sweat patches under the arms of white t-shirts? Cream on feet that then goes on the towel?

I used to live with someone who would get out of the shower and then moisturise from head to soles of feet so maybe something like that and then standing on the bath mat would do it.

Another theory, do either of you wear shoes with no socks? Do any of your socks get brown marks too?

DH is trying to blame my shampoo but I’m using a different one now to I was when we got the marks on the first mat. And I don’t use shampoo on my feet 😅

I used to get that on my floor when I hadn't cleaned it for a while. I think its just "bare feet skin". It should disappear when you wash your mat.
