Band G, Edinburgh, £2580ish

Rang up council up today to get benefits form to see if we are entitled to reduction at all. Apparently if your in a high band and have quite a low income they will review it for you. As my statutory maternity pay runs out next month I thought we might as well give it a try. My bloke earns about £25k and woman on the other end of the phone seemed to think it was worth me trying although she didn't say we'd definately be eligible.

Get little else so anythings a bonus!

Why do my messages keep double posting???

Fizzylemonade · 05/04/2008 21:53

That last one didn't!! I used to work in the council tax department [boo hiss emoticon]

Council tax benefit is usually applicable if you apply for housing benefit as they are usually applied for together. I have been a sahm for about 4 years now so my knowledge is rusty on this part but it is always worth a try.

FYI D band, Yorkshire £1240 ish as I know it is £124 per month. It starts jumping quite highly between bands when you go from a D to an E as council tax is worked out on the number of D bands in the area, then everything else is a set percentage of that band either lower or higher.

Don't know which band we are but it's £181 a month but thats over 10 months not 12, thats central Scotland.

When we lived in London we were in a flat that was worth more than the house we are in now and the council tax was £81 a month.
