Dishwasher recommendations esp reliable heating element in hard water area

We’ve had our Bosch dishwasher just over 4 years and have had to replace the heating element already and now it’s gone again.

Any suggestions why this could be? I’m wondering if it’s related to our very hard water. Do I need to get a water softening system??

Any suggestions for very reliable dishwashers? Obvs not Bosch (which I know are very popular) and would prefer not to stretch to a Miele but might have to.

Under the consumer legislation appliances should last at least 6 years, you need a water softener, Bosch are generally good.

We have always had bosch dishwashers, have you not been adding enough salt into the diswasher? You can adjust the settings for the amount of salt they use depending on the hardness of your water. We live in a very hard water area, granted now we have a house water softener but in our last house for 14 years we didn't and never had a problem.

I thought I had been using the right amount of salt but maybe not. Interesting to hear you didn’t have problems without a water softener @MigGirl.
