Defrosting spray for freezers

Any recommendations for heavy duty ice removal?

Hairdryer. One you don't really care about, in case it gets too hot and stops working.

Steam. Large shallow trays of steaming hot water.
I’ve never considered using anything chemical. I suppose salt is the obvious thing.
