One ant it just came in from somewhere on clothes or shoes they can climb well so why not on the work surface, do nothing. Dozens of ants everywhere get some ant killer! Big ants are wood ants I think.

Presume it's a randome one until you can see a few, and then borax powder near where they're coming in should do the trick. They're not harmful, just a bit of a pest.

With all insects in the home, kill them aggressively. Buy three kinds of ant killer. Use it liberally.

I lived in the tropics for a few years. I learned.

This stuff does the trick.
Spray it around likely points of entry.
You can get it on Amazon.

If the ants are carpenter ants/wood ants, they can cause massive structural damage and you absolutely have to get rid of them. Call in a professional if you're not sure exactly what kind of ant you're dealing with.

Definitely not flying ants? Some of whom have no wings believe it or not.

I successfully dealt with a full invasion of them with a real strip down clean of the kitchen - nothing remotely sugary was left without a lot of cling film or in a sealed tupperware, and washing up liquid, a roll of kitchen roll and spray bottle of vinegar was all the chemicals I needed. Managed to trace them back to the nest and did that with a couple of kettlefulls of boiling water over 3 days.

There is no need for insecticides (which have a knock on effect on other wildlife like hedgehogs and birds) for the appearance of two ants. They're likely scouts, sent out to find food sources. Squish them so they don't report back and keep the place clean so any scouts you don't notice don't report back that there's a yummy picnic at number 5.

You can buy Ant bait Traps in Homebase or any diy store. Round flat things. You just place them where you see ants. They are not traps as such but some ants go in then take the poison back to the nest.
They really work well.

I've got them in my bathroom at the moment, went to the toilet last night & there were about 10 playing slide in the wash basin. I've got some ant powder down everywhere I can think they are getting in. The powder gets taken back to the nest & from what I've read on the bottle as each one goes back it starts to kill off the ones in the nest. Put the powder along the edges of the floor & on window sills if you see them there. Each application should last 12 weeks.
