Need new curtains - can a complete novice make them?

Have paper thin curtains in ds2 room inherited when we moved in 6 days before ds2 arrived. Am starting to try to settle him in his room in the evening and do naps there and it is far too light.

I have my mum's (very) old singer machine and a vague idea how it works. Am i ridiculous to think of making them? Is it very technical, and how do I find out how?

TIA

It's not technical
It's easy
an oblong with a hem on three sides - fleece makes lovely curtains

Then sew the header tape on the top - sorted

you don't need new curtains you need readymade hook in blackout linings

ooo, thanks for that. should also say though, that existing curtains are tatty and wrong length. will consider turning up and adding those linings though (and ironing curtains)

I made grey fleece curtains - they are very thick and keepout lots of light

If you want cheap blackout linings you can use blankets from the charity shop - they add additional insulation

you could make them very easily yourself.
buy some dark heavy material, if you buy extra you could use that to line the curtains.
