So dog managed to tread in dogs pooh and then jumped on soca, i wss out. DP said wiped off with dog wipe ( not anti bac) then put in washing machine at 30 as thats hottest they can be washed, with detergent and dettol wash stuff, once finished did another wash at 30 with just the dettol as claims to disenfect at that tenp..
when i came home , i put the machine on a drun clean empty which i think is 60 plus, never added anything as usually can see all the detergemt etc in this wash thats residue.
is the machine now clean and free if bacteria and the sofa cushions do look clena , no stain but 30 doesn’t kill much is my concern.
i would of personally washed the area with hot water and disenfectant and maybe soaked before putting in the machine, where as he just wiped off and chucked in the machine .

I’d stick bleach in the machine. It froths alarmingly but I wouldn’t wash my clothes in a machine that’s had dog muck rinsed through it on such a low wash.
I would also have chucked the cushion covers on a hot wash and hoped for the best though. I couldn’t have them in my sofa after a 30 degree wash. That wouldn’t kill anything.

They can’t go on a hot wash as they would shrink and not go back on the sofa, i can’t afford a whole nee sofa. thats why used the dettol in there twice as meant to kill even at 30 degrees
the washing machine has been on a hot wash since but i though bleach worked ar lower temps anyway ? Not really keen in bleach in my machine and don’t have any anyway as use toilet cleaner and disinfectant and not bleach in the house
have got the disinfectant spray so was thinking once sey to spray them fully with this as well ,

To add apparently the drum ckean on washing machine is 90 so that went on empty before any washing added, the cushions not sure what else we can do as actual sofa covers not small cushions and they are supposed to be hand wash only , but dp chucked in wool 30 with detergent and disenfectant and then another 30degree 20 min wash just disenfectant, then left yo air dry

That will be fine

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/04/2024 09:21

It'll be fine. Stick the machine on the hottest wash there is , empty with a machine cleaner and it'll be fine.

Bovrilla · 21/04/2024 09:24

Hottest wash + laundry disinfectant or machine cleaner will clean it and all the nasties.

Mrsjayy · 21/04/2024 09:26

Just stick your machine on the hottest setting mine has a 90 but 60 is fine and it will clean through and kill bacteria,

Chasingsquirrels · 21/04/2024 09:29

I wouldn't give this another thought, it will be fine.

healthadvice123 · 21/04/2024 09:35

@Mrsjayy apparently mine is a 90 as well and put it on that yesterday so washing machine should all be clean
the sofa covers look clean but i can’t wash hotter than 30, have steam cleaner so when dry might just run that over it to be sure .

To be sure of what? You've washed it,you're not going to eat off the sofa,it doesn't need to be sterile.

Look, dogs lick their arses and then their legs and bodies. If you have ever touched your dog you will have got the occasional Enterococcus faecalis or non pathogenic E coli bacterium or three on your hands. The steps you have taken already are more than adequate.
