Carpet cleaner and wool rug

Just bought a carpet cleaner that I'm itching to use but it says I can't use on a wool rug. Just checked and you guessed it - the rug is wool . It really does need a good clean though. What's the worst that can happen?

not a lot actually i used my carpet cleaner on mine the only thing that happened was being wool it needed two cleans as wools absorbs dirt more than synthetic and i had to make sure i got as much water out of it with the cleaner because it took longer to dry

and used cooler water as hot water would make it shrink
