How the F do I get limescale/stains off from my toilet bowl?

There are only 3 of us in the house and we are not accustomed to leaving anything horrid in there so I just don't know why they are so stained. I think it has been from emptying DD nappy in there. Bleach doesn't really work does anyone have any magic answers?

I have heard that you need to empty the bowl and then put down the descaler, leave to work ,then scrape off.
Lovely job!

I empty the bowl and use a limescale remover - left on for a while - it usually brushes off but you have to scrub hard and I use a toothbrush for the hard to get at bits. Sound like I do it a lot LOL - but I really don't!!!

Furball · 28/03/2008 09:34

lime lite is really good - just squirt it on and leave 30 mins

SKYTVADDICT · 28/03/2008 09:34

I meant to say I empty the bowl by vigourously (sp?) prodding with the loo brush (water nearly all goes but not every bit). DP says you can turn it off somewhere then flush but I wouldn't know how to do this.

I use harpic blue limescale remover - No scrubbing at all or any need to empty the bowl. Just leave it on overnight. Its magic stuff.

Bottle of coke is supposed to do the trick according to the "how clean is your house" girls.

bb99 · 28/03/2008 09:40

Is it under the water - if so you can get toilet descaler tablets, they nuke the limescale and it (usually) just brushes off with a loo brush.

Usually less than £2-00 for a box. Harpic do some and local Supermarket should have them.

LimeLite

elesbells · 28/03/2008 09:46

I've just found this If you don't want to use the harsh chemicals.

SoupKitchen · 28/03/2008 09:46

Agree with elesbells harpic limescale is easy quick and works

WanderingTrolley · 28/03/2008 09:48

I'm in the Harpic Blue quiche

Leave it on overnight, then you go into the bathroom next day and it smells a bit like your loo is smouldering. Smell doesn't last, btw, just not a bleachy sort of smell.

A bottle of white vinegar chucked down and left overnight will do the job too. Asda have it v. cheap (less than 50p I think)

Then if you put a bit down after exch time you clean, it will stop it coming back.

SlightlyMadSweet · 28/03/2008 09:56

Don't do what I did use a scourer....I did and I appear tohev scraped the bottom of the bowl and now limescale sits in all the micro-cracks and builds up quicker.

blondie14 · 03/04/2008 23:13

i use a can of cheap coke. just pour it in before you go to bed then flush the loo when you wake up in the morning. much cheaper and less work than bleach.

avenanap · 03/04/2008 23:18

Harpic power plus is fantastic. It worked on my loo and it was minging.
