Tips appreciated please! The blood is mine, the carpet is not.

Vodka. Cheap stuff. Pour on enough to water down the blood and then soak up with paper towel / white cotton towel. When the soakage comes up clear the blood is gone.
Don't scrub

Use foam shaving cream, leave on the stain for 30 mins and then blot with a clean cloth

Cold water works too
You can add salt too as I think that's supposed to help remove the blood

Your own saliva helps digest your own blood.

Biological washing powder, mixed with a little water. Had to get a lot out of a light grey carpet recently, after a nose bleed. You can't see where any of it was now.
