plumber is fitting my new bathroom upstairs and draining water from old waste pipes etc and some has come through the ceiling lights (spot light and pendant light) in kitchen below - it's stopped now but should I leave lights off for a bit ? have rung my electrician to ask but he's out and about

Def leave lights off and get it checked ASAP. Water and leccy do not mix well. Put a big sticker to stop anyone else touching lights too!

It may take some time to dry out so you may need to leave them off for quite a while.

how long do you reckon ? I'll move some lamps into the kitchen I think

We've had drips (or even floods ) like this in the past - it will be OK but leaving them off for as long as poss is a good idea.

(The water comes through the edges of the hole in the ceiling rather than right inside the wires)

Thanks Wendy, will dab at visible moisture and leave off for a while...I can remember as a girl water cascading through my bedroom ceiling and along where my light switch was - very scary...

we have dried out the thingy at the top of the pendant,it was full of water and crackling...plumber rung electrician friend to see if it's ok, light still works too- we have very sensitive circuit breaker thing that flicks the power off if a bulb goes an it was ok..

Oh crackling doesn't sound good Those circuit breakers are reassuring though, aren't they?

How is it now? All dried out?

is ok now thanks - will leave pendant light off for a few days, but spotlights working and nothing fizzing...argh I hate this sort of thing, very unnerving.
