My Vax pet smart stretch has broken after 1 year 5 months so will not be buying one of those. No idea what I need.
Flooring - carpeted stairs, landing and hall plus one bedroom. The rest is floorboards and lino. I'm moving house and don't know what I will have.
Animals - a retriever and three cats. So needs to be good with pet hair.
Any suggestions for what to look at and avoid much appreciated.

We just got a shark - with two house bunnies and a cat, it's a game changer. You have to empty it a lot but there's no bags and because it's corded, no annoying batteries running out midway through.
Very lightweight too

BirthdayRainbow · 23/02/2024 20:43

Shark classic lift away pet corded is one I'm looking at.

Sebo felix way better than the shark hoover I had. Meile cat &dog was also a brilliant vacuum.

BirthdayRainbow · 23/02/2024 21:22

Thank you. I'll have a look.

Shark classic lift away pet corded is one I'm looking at.

I got that very one less than 18 months ago. At first it was amazing. Couldn't believe the suction and the amount of fur it lifted (two, now three cats).

It's been shite for months now. Leaves dirt on the floor, anything bigger than minute gets stuck in the rollers and it won't work. I did see quite a lot of negative feedback online. Very disappointing.

I had Miele before and I think I might have to go back.

HappiestSleeping · 23/02/2024 21:23

I have one of these
https://www.dm-tools.co.uk/Trend-T33A-230V-M-Class-Dust-Extractor-1200W/P19338/froogle

It is wet and dry, and class m (which is a level of dust filtration usually found in workshops), which makes it great for removing odours.

It doesn't have a rotating attachment for the carpet end, but I find they usually just get wound up with fur anyway.

I have a Lab who drops enough fur for me to knit a new lab every other day and it is great.

The link is for the best price I could find today, but periodically there are offers here and there.

Thank you. I've removed it from my wish list. Even one bad review is enough as I am so shocked at my vax breaking after such a short time. Miele is out of my price range I think.

Not seen that brand before @HappiestSleeping Thank you.

Miele cat and dog - it's worth it!
I have a goldie and even though my house looks clean enough it's shocking what it picks up. When I empty it the resulting hair ball lands with a thud.

BirthdayRainbow · 23/02/2024 21:54

I have to pay, h won't contribute, so £300 is a lot right now.

Not seen that brand before @HappiestSleeping Thank you.

They are industrial, and not usually seen in the home. Maybe a bit taller than a Henry, but the same sort of footprint. Also, call me a saddo, but all the tools fit on the body, which means I never lose them. Also, the hose is long, so I can get all the way up (or down) the stairs.

Fantastic piece of kit. And I use it as a dust extractor for my mitre saw and my table saw too.

Sunshineandrainbow · 23/02/2024 22:24

I love love my sebo. Absolutely the best.
I have a shark which is awful and not worth the money.

pastypirate · 23/02/2024 22:35

Have you tried getting it repaired? I have a dyson repair man about a mile away from my house that I found on fb. He's saved me hundreds!

I've got a fluffy dog and we have a Dyson stick and the corded lift away shark. I effing hate the shark it weighs a ton and going back to corded is so annoying. I only use it if I really have to.
My Dyson stick is my bestie I love it.

I have bought that carpet scraper thing for pet hair and once you scrape the carpets now and then it makes a big difference as the pet hair lies flat and blocks the suction.

BirthdayRainbow · 23/02/2024 22:38

The motor has gone so I assumed not repairable. It feels impossible to know what to get for the best and it's an expensive purchase to get wrong.

I've got a Sebo upright and a Miele C3 cat and dog. Both are brilliant, the Sebo is outstanding on carpets and the Miele is lightweight and really good on everything.

We had a Shark liftaway, it was the worst vacuum cleaner I've ever had. Always getting blocked and the dirt container is minute so it was forever needing to be emptied (dust everywhere). Also it was a filthy job cleaning the filters. It went to the tip with our very best wishes!

Mine was an ex display model, £219 instead of £300+. It was in perfect condition.

TobKat · 23/02/2024 22:58

I second the post that suggests a Miele. I have a Miele vacuum cleaner and it's superb. Still going strong after 14 years of regular use. Forget anything else.

Sunshineandrainbow · 23/02/2024 23:55

If you have a John Lewis near you then you could go and try some which would help.

BirthdayRainbow · 24/02/2024 23:06

Thanks all I've bought one today.

Sebo

Under consumer rights law your Vax should last 6 years at least claim against the retailor/shop.

Chemenger · 25/02/2024 13:17

We’ve had a Miele Cat and Dog for many years, at least 15 , probably more. It is great except that long (human) hair gets wound round the brush and is fiddly to remove. It’s good with cat hair. We also have a much newer bag less Miele without the rotating brush and it is hopeless with cat hair on carpets.
